Dr. Peres is the director of the Research on the Interaction between Humans and Machines (RIHM) Lab where we focus on improving safety by integrating Human Systems Engineering methods and science into high-risk industrial settings.
Human Systems Engineering (HSE) combines methods and principles of engineering and psychology to create efficient, effective, and safe systems.
- RESEARCH GOALS: contribute to methods and theories of HSE needed for professionals in high-risk industries to be successful and safe
- how variables associated the context, task, and person are predictive of procedural performance
- interaction of teams and technology in highly dynamic environments
- effects and measurements of human states (e.g., fatigue) on human performance with procedural tasks
- assessement of human robotic interaction in disaster response
- TEACHING GOAL:
develop students' knowledge and skill in HSE so they can ultimately:
1) integrate this knowledge into their profession work or
2) become professionals in HSE
- with team and critical thinking assignments, have students develop effective skills for working in interdisciplinary groups.
